Dr. Emilio Justo was born in communist Cuba. He and his parents immigrated to the United States as refugees when he was only three. What he created out of life many years later only goes to show how far Dr. Justo has reached in his journey, overcoming challenges and becoming one of the most renowned names in the medical world and beyond. Today, he is the Founder and Medical Director of the Arizona Eye Institute & Cosmetic Laser Center, an Ophthalmologist, Refractive Cataract and Oculoplastic Surgeon, and a 2x International TEDx Speaker. Additionally, Dr. Justo is the bestselling author of “The Power of Pause: Mastering Delayed Gratification for Success.” Dr. Justo studied Medicine at the University of Michigan Medical School and, by the age of 23, had already earned both his M.D. and B.S. degrees. He is a board-certified doctor under the American Board of Ophthalmology, and a Diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners, as well as a Fellow of the American Board of Ophthalmology and a Fellow of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery.
Despite starting his life amidst challenges like poverty and discrimination, he went ahead in building an illustrious career, becoming a celebrated Ophthalmologist, eye physician, cosmetic surgeon, bestselling author, and two-time TEDx speaker, who looks forward to inspiring lives every single day through his teachings and leadership.
In 1989, as a 27-year-old, Dr. Emilio Justo founded the Arizona Eye Institute & Cosmetic Laser Center, and established himself as a young founder and medical director. The success of his center can be known by the consistent expansion it has done in all these years, adding two additional locations and a Certified Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC). Over the years, he also gained recognition for his advanced skills in refractive cataract surgery and CO2 laser blepharoplasty, performing more than 50,000 procedures during his career.
While Dr. Emilio Justo continued to showcase his excellence as a doctor at his center and expand the brand, he also made sure to reach more people and inspire lives. For this, he also transitioned into becoming an influential speaker at TEDx stages, sharing the principles that guided him in his career and life toward success. These principles form what he calls “The Cuban Triad,” which is a philosophy based on self-discipline, resilience, and delayed gratification. Additionally, he serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor at several academic institutions, such as Midwestern University College of Medicine and the University of Arizona-Phoenix Medical School.
