Dark Star Pictures, the Los Angeles-based distribution company, has acquired the North American distribution rights to “On the Go,” featuring the acting talents of Omar Ayuso from “Elite,” portraying a Grindr addict seeking vengeance.
The film premiered at the Locarno Film Festival last August and was acquired for world sales by Paris-based MPM Premium. Since then, it has garnered attention and secured distribution deals in various territories, including France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Taiwan, and now the United States and Canada through Dark Star Pictures.
Quentin Worthington, MPM Premium’s head of sales and acquisitions, expressed excitement about the partnership with Dark Star Pictures, known for bringing unique and cutting-edge genre movies to North America. Mike Repsch, president of Dark Star Pictures, shared the sentiment, stating their enthusiasm for bringing “On the Go” to North American audiences.
Written and directed by Maria Royo and Julia de Castro, “On the Go” presents a contemporary take on social issues and art cinema, infused with humor and the energy of a road movie. Drawing inspiration from the influential Andalusian film “Corridas de Alegría” from 1982, the film explores themes of friendship, love, dating apps, and economic insecurity against the backdrop of modern society.
Omar Ayuso plays Jonathan, who embarks on a journey with his friend Milagros, portrayed by a close friend, as she seeks motherhood and convinces Jonathan to be her sperm donor.
Receiving positive reviews and accolades at various film festivals, including awards for best feature and director, “On the Go” promises to captivate audiences with its inventive storytelling and entertaining narrative. It joins Dark Star Pictures’ diverse distribution lineup, which includes other adventurous films like “Stay Online” and “The Becomers.”
